August F. Tiedje, 73, Oshkosh passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 26, 1937 in Oshkosh (Nordheim), a son of the late August P. and Edna (Messerschmidt) Tiedje.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1954-1957 with an honorable discharge as a Corporal (E-3). August married Patricia Starkey, of Berlin, on October 10, 1957 in Oshkosh. Patricia preceded him in death on February 27, 1995. He received a diploma for Printing Technology from the Oshkosh Institute of Technology in 1959. August was a member of the Central Wisconsin Auto Collectors, Winnebago County Historical and Archeological Society, Oshkosh Elks Club #292, Oshkosh Public Museum, Oshkosh Memorabilia Club, and a life member of the Marine Corps League. He owned and operated Park 'N Print since 1979. He enjoyed collecting Oshkosh Memorabilia, preserving Oshkosh History, attending garage sales, flea markets, auctions and his coffee clubs with his friends at Mike's Place, Two Brothers and American Table. He spent time helping others less fortunate than himself and helped clean and preserve cemetery stones in his spare time at Riverside Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Tammy (Nevel) Osborne of Cox's Creek, Kentucky, Gerald (Michele) Tiedje and Edward (Lisa) Tiedje of Oshkosh, his sisters Roxanna (Ronald) Braasch of Oshkosh, Elvira (Robert) Robbins of Menasha, Diana Farry of Oshkosh, grandchildren, Joshua Novotny, Mindy (Tim) Baird, Crystal (Matthew) Cox, Alison, Nikita, Samantha, Edward Jr. and Adrianna Tiedje, step grandchildren, Matthew, Monica, Jacob and Michael Oswald, great grandchildren, Timmy, Draken, Jaden, Haley, Matthew and Bella, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, August was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Tiedje.
A special thank you to Micki, Tina, Tammy, Jason of Aurora Hospice and to many friends and neighbors for their support.
A funeral service for August will be held Monday July 5, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Eastside, Rev. Tom McFarland officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday at the Waugoo Ave. funeral home from 4 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in his name.
