James "Jim" W. Brockhaus Sr. 78 of Oshkosh, beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died peacefully at his home on Sunday July 11, 2010 with his devoted wife of 57 years and family by his side. He was born in Appleton, WI on January 26, 1932 son of Walter and Esther Hillman Brockhaus. On January 3, 1953, he married Virginia "Ginny" Mauel in Appleton.
Before his retirement, Jim had been self employed as an accountant. He was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Oshkosh. He has served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Jarvis during the Korean Conflict and was proud to have been a "Tin Can Sailor".
He also served his communities as a longtime Boy Scout Leader; a hunter safety instructor; past president of the Menasha Rotary Club; past treasurer of the Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis Club; and immediate past treasurer of the Wyldewood Condominium Association. He also belonged to the IMA (International Management Accountants).
Jim fought a 35 year battle with heart disease, defying all odds with his positive attitude, love and appreciation of life and the love of his family and many friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ginny Brockhaus of Oshkosh; his sister, Alice (James) Riedl; his children, Charles (Joanne) of Mayville, James Jr. (Deb) of N. Fond du Lac, Ellen McCue (Kevin) of Batavia, IL, and David (Jane) of Fond du Lac; his grandchildren Jason (Tina) of West Bend, Kristin of Milwaukee, Jodi Schiller (Ben), Ryan of Minneapolis, Brittany of Chicago, Jessica of Boston, and Catherine and Lauren of Fond du Lac; his great grandchildren, Ava, Peter, Conrad and Sara and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Beverly.
A memorial mass to celebrate Jim's life will be conducted on Thursday July 15, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Blahnik officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from Noon until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will be conducted at the church after the Mass. A memorial to the American Heart Association has been established in Jim's honor.
Jim's family wishes to thank their dear friends and neighbors for the incredible love and support throughout the past years. A special thank you to Dr. Al-Nouri and staff and Agnesian Hospice Hope of Fond du Lac.
