Marlene N. Kuhn

April 22, 1934 — June 4, 2022

The Lord said, “Come follow me”, so Marlene left her earthly home to join her Heavenly Father in Heaven on June 4, 2022. She was born on April 22, 1934, at her maternal grandparent’s home, George & Katherine Scheuermann, the 3rd and youngest daughter of Norman and Kathryn (Scheuermann) Klier.

Marlene survived growing up on a farm (despite the dangers of a pitchfork in her leg, caught on an electric fence, and falling in the water tank) and she had a love of animals, having dogs, cats, kittens, and a riding horse. She graduated eighth grade from a one room schoolhouse in 1948. The family then moved to the city of Oshkosh, and she graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952 with High Honors. During this time, Marlene was a member of Job’s Oshkosh Trunk and Luggage Company as a payroll clerk and then as an inventory control/accounts receivable clerk. She was very proud of her first car, a 1946 yellow Plymouth convertible.

Marlene saw a picture of Robert Kuhn in his army uniform, and his parents, Eleanor and Andrew, sent her address to Bob, who started writing to Marlene while he was on duty in Korea and Germany as a Military Policeman. Bob was Honorably Discharged in 1953. They became engaged in April of 1954 and started to build their own home on Bowen Street with the help of both their fathers, Norman and Andrew. Their wedding took place at Zion Lutheran Church on June 4, 1955, before Rev. Leo Oberleiter, who had also baptized and confirmed Marlene. During her teen years, Marlene sang in the choir and also taught Sunday School.

They were blessed with four wonderful children, Russell, David, Mark, and Kimberly, and then built a home on Hazel Street. While on Hazel Street, Bob and Marlene became founding members of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church that was later built just down the street from their home. There, Marlene sang in the choir for many years and Bob served at the church on several committees. After the children were all in school, Marlene went back to school herself and got her LPN degree. She worked in the nursery at Theda Clark Medical Center for 7+ years. Later, she worked in the nursing office of Oshkosh Corporation for 18+ years. Bob and Marlene enjoyed many vacations from coast to coast, visiting almost every state, seeing the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, Canada, and Mexico, especially enjoying visiting Las Vegas, Nevada and Branson, Missouri many times, also several trips to the Hawaiian Islands.

After becoming interested in horses, they decided to move to the country and build a home on Ripon Place in 1973, complete with stable and acres for the horses. Daughter Kimberly collected most of the trophies at the horse shows, but Marlene got a few too. Marlene also became interested in showing Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties) to their Championships in AKC shows. She had a total of 18 champions, 13 of them homebred. Other interests were crocheting afghans for everyone in the family, doing crossword puzzles, plants and flowers, birdwatching, especially the Blue Jays and the Cardinals that came to the feeder, Lawrence Welk music shows, and Dean Martin, seeing him in person at a show in Vegas. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, so much so that if you were watching a game at her house, you were not allowed to talk until the commercials, and everyone knew not to phone because she would not answer. Also being an owner of Packer stock, selling a Sheltie puppy to a Green Bay Packer linebacker, and having an autographed football signed by all the 2012 team. From her sons, she had received individual autographed helmets of Aaron Rodgers and John Kuhn and Super Bowl rings from each year of the Packer wins in the Super Bowl trophy reproduction.

In 1974, her first granddaughter Michelle arrived. Then in 1976, her first grandson Duane, both children of Russell. Following were granddaughters Teresa and Danielle, children of David. Because she was raising sheltie puppies during the time they were growing up, Marlene was affectionately known as “Grandma Puppies”, Zakary, Natasha, Crystal, and Chloe all children of Mark; Maya, India, and Aliyah all daughters of Kimberly. In 2011, Marlene‘s great granddaughter Chesney was born and in 2014, a second great granddaughter Kenley arrived both children of Duane and Niki. In 2017, her first great grandson Isaac arrived, parents are Danielle and Juan Munoz and in 2021, great grandson Jack was born to Teresa and Alex Breyer. The highlights of her life were when her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren visited. Another special occasion was the Christmas gatherings with the dinner, presents, and games. Everyone took home the dozens and dozens of cookies that Marlene loved baking for her family. She very much loved her children and family, as evidenced by all the photos displayed in her home, from great grandparents down to her great grandchildren.

With her declining mobility, she was incredibly grateful to her son Mark, who helped her get out and about to appointments.

Survivors include: son Russell and wife Barbie in Neenah, their children Michelle Tepolt and her husband Andrew in Appleton, and Duane Kuhn and his wife Niki in Appleton, their two children Chesney and Kenley; son David and wife Deborah in Appleton, their two daughters Technical Staff Sgt. Air National Guard Teresa Kuhn Breyer and her husband Technical Staff Sgt. Other survivors are nieces Karen, Joann (Marlene's god-child) and nephew Ronald, children of her sister Dolores. A granddaughter Amanda, many cousins and friends and a very special friend, Juanita Drury.

Awaiting Marlene at the rainbow bridge will be many of the Shelties that she loved and that loved her.

Due to wonderful neighbors, Connie and Warren Mueller who faithfully removed snow, cut grass when Mark couldn’t, were ready to help in any way. Of course Marlene‘s children were always there for her too.

Marlene loved all kinds of flowers, but memorials may be given to the Oshkosh area Humane Society or American Heart Association.

A visitation will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home – Westside (100 Lake Pointe Drive) on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev Karen Jewell from St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church will be officiating the service.

“Forget to grieve for my going, I’d not have you sad for a day, but in summer just gather some flowers and remember the place where I lay. “ Author unknown
