Adolf L. Knecht, 89, of Oshkosh, died Thursday July 31, 2008 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born on November 3, 1918 in Oshkosh a son of Adolf and Rowena Abraham Knecht. On June 15, 1940 he married Lilly Gustavus in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death in 1970. He then married Dolores Rates on August 19, 1972.He was a veteran on the United States Navy. He worked at Oshkosh Tent and Awning for 31 years and UWO in the maintenance department for 11 years. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed bowling, traveling, an occasional trip to the Oneida Casino, card playing with his grandchildren and making canvas boat covers.He is survived by his wife Dolores, two sons James(Mary Ellen) Knecht of Sherwood, Richard(Irene) Knecht, three step-daughters Judith(Alan) Hollis, Sharon(Harvey) Jones, Bonnie(John) Lynch all of Oshkosh, one sister Mildred Fellows, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one infant son, one brother, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 5, 2008 at 4 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.The family would like to thank the staff of Sharehaven and Evergreen Retirement Community.
