Adolph Duffy Matthew Meyer, 90 died peacefully at Bethel Home on February 1, 2008. He was born in Oshkosh on March 4, 1917, the son of Matthew and Alma (Nimmer) Meyer. He married Marcella Clara Elsie Klotzbuecher on April 17, 1942 in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2002.Duffy was a life-long member and three-time President of Peace Lutheran Church. He started and ran the Oshkosh Youth Club. Duffy was also Past President of the following organizations: Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh Board of Directors, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Twin lakes (BayLakes) Boy Scout Council, Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Rotary, Elks Club and Winnebagoland Shrine Club. He was a member of the Franklin Life Million Dollar Club, Eagles Club, Oshkosh Masonic Lodge #27 F. & A.M., Oshkosh Commandery No. 11 KT; Tyrian Chapter #15 R.A.M. and Tripoli Shrine. He was the recipient of the Boy Scout Adult leader Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope. He worked at Meyer & Sons Grocery Stores and Wisconsin Axle Co. He was part owner of the Blue Ox. He then owned and operated Duffy Meyer Insurance.Duffy enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, bowling and a good martini now and then. His outgoing personality and cheerful smile lit up a room.Survivors include five children, Jim (Sue) Meyer, Oshkosh; Jerry (Sue) Meyer, Lindenhurst, IL; Jay (Linda) Meyer, Oshkosh; Jodi (John) Ambrose, Oshkosh; and Julie (Andy) Berger, Marshfield; 12 grandchildren, Jim (Carissa), John (Tina), Ben (Kelly), Jeff (Alicia Firkus), Brent (Jessica), Blake, Stephanie, and Jason Meyer, Jana, and Joey Ambrose, and Danielle and Seth Berger; 11 great grandchildren, Andre, Quinn, Brayden, Noah, Hailey, Paige, Aiden, Carter, Megan, Logan and Brianna; 2 brothers, Bill (Norma) Meyer, Oshkosh and Bob Dutch (Glenna) Meyer, Redgranite; and numerous other relatives and friends. Duffy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 2 sisters, Lydia and Marcella, 1 brother LeRoy and a grandson Jeremy.Funeral services for Duffy will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (240 W. 9th Ave.) on Tuesday February 5, 2008 at 1:30 PM with Rev. Tim Greenwald officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday beginning at 10:00AM continuing until the Masonic service at 1:00 PM. followed the funeral at 1:30 PM.We would like to thank the staff in the Special Care Unit of Bethel home for their incredible kindness and caring.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established at Cerebral Palsy of Mideast Wisconsin- Oshkosh; and Shriners Childrens Hospital.Good-bye Dad!
