Agnes R. Carpenter

October 6, 1925 — August 22, 2012

Agnes R. Carpenter, age 86 of Oshkosh, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Century Oaks. She was born in a cottage on Pearl Lake in the Town of Leon, Wisconsin on October 6, 1925. Her parents were Albert and Ella (Rogers) Hodel. Agnes married Burton J. Carpenter on March 25, 1967 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Oshkosh where they remained members. During World War II, Agnes left home for the Milwaukee area where she worked for the Baso Company. While living in West Bend, she met Burt and returned to this area after their marriage. Agnes was happily involved with Burt in their many endeavors. They provided foster care to adults in Winnebago County for 25 years. Much of their time was spent growing, selling, and canning fruits and vegetables grown at their hobby farm in Waukau. Agnes was instrumental in the success of their many home remodeling projects. She was proud to have been a charter member of the local Master Gardeners association. She loved gardening, was especially skilled at growing African violets, loved feeding the birds, and enjoyed their many pets through the years. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Burt; her brothers Willard and Merlin Hodel; her sister Evelyn Huebschen; her nephews Roger and Joseph Hodel; and stepson James Jim Carpenter. Survivors include her nephews Frank, Daniel, Mark, and Jesse Hodel, and Allen and Donald Huebschen; her nieces Dianah Wade-DiSandro, Linda Spivey, Anna Reischl, Tammie Fischer, Tricia Brodbeck, and Karen Jakubowski. Agnes is further survived by Jims family: his wife Laurie, their sons Ryan and Tim, and their grandsons Jacob, Max, Drew, and Zach. Also surviving are special friends Eleanor Polly and Betty Weber, cousins, other relatives, good friends and good neighbors. She showed tremendous courage and grace during her decades-long bout with cancer. She was cheerful, warm, hard-working, resourceful, liked to laugh, had a green thumb, and was a fantastic cook. Time spent with family and friends was her great joy. She will be missed by all who knew her. Agnes appreciated the excellent care given to her by the staffs of Heartland Hospice and Century Oaks. Funeral services will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Saturday, August 25 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Paul Lidtke officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Internment will take place at Waukau Cemetery immediately following the service. A memorial has been established to which friends may contribute.
