Albert E. Demler passed away peacefully on July 31, 2012, at Park View Health Center at the age of 98. Prior to that, he lived with John and Diane. He was born on November 24, 1913 to John and Louise Demler. He married Alice E. Kuehl on August 31, 1940. Al graduated from St. Vincent School and was also a member of that church. Al worked until he was 72 at a job he loved. He worked for several companies in Oshkosh as a Punch Press Operator. Al was also known for being a catcher for several city of Oshkosh Championship teams; in 1945 for the Hour Tavern and in 1946 for Universal Foundry. Al was known for his quick ability to catch baseballs out of thin air, and for that, his teammates gave him the nickname Snatch. He loved his time fishing at the shanty on the end of Michigan Ave. and also with his sons at Jim Erdmans dock. Al was loved not only by his kids and family, but by so many people in the community. At his 90th birthday party, he was surprised by how many people showed up! Thank you, it meant a lot to him and to his family. Survivors include his children, Tom (Rosalia) Demler, Diane (John) Harrington, Jim Demler, Bob (Sue) Demler, Ed (Terry) Demler, Carla (Jeff) Haen, and Mary (Norman) Salomon; one brother, Richard Sonny or Honk (Lenore) Demler, five sisters, Marjorie Volkman, Gena Brans, Marie Dickey, Rose Weitz, and Marcella (Herbie) Ziebell; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice of 54 years; a son, David Kuehl Honk; brothers, Joe, Robbie, Harry, John Lab, and Clifford Speed Demler; sisters Cecelia Eichman and Betty Betsy Gerth. Funeral services for Al will be held on Thursday August 2, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, Revs. Ed Demler and Bill Van De Kreeke officiating. There will be a prayer service from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Thursday at the Lake Pointe Dr. funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the service. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial has been established in Als memory. The family wishes to thank the great staff at Park view Health Center - Lakeside South. Thank you for your absolute best care and concerns for our dad. We always felt our dad, and his family were at home there. Extra blessings go out to Missy (his motivator), Jim (the landlord), Roxy (our rock) who was a gentle understanding person and Marianne, LPN on nights. You all gave him what he wanted, even when he wanted to be left alone. Al said, I was married to THE BEST! and now they are finally together at rest.
