Alfred Becher, age 91, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at Bethel Home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Alfred Henry Becher was born September 15th, 1919 in New Holstein, Wisconsin. He was the son of Paul and Ada (Wandersleben) Becher both deceased. Alfred was also preceded in death by his brother Ronald. Alfred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irmgard (Hischke), sons Thomas (Kathy) and Glenn, loving granddaughters Dana and Nicole, and many friends and relatives. Alfred was a proud WWII veteran who served in the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Division. In his later years he would fondly tell everyone about his experiences in Australia and the fight against the Japanese in New Guinea.After the war Alfred returned to New Holstein where he worked as a mason in the family business. Alfred married Irmgard in 1954 and remained in New Holstein until 1962 when he was forced to quit masonry due to health reasons. Alfred and Irmgard moved to Grafton, Wisconsin where Alfred worked as a maintenance man for St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton for five years before taking the head maintenance position for the UW Field Station in Saukville where he worked until he retired in 1985. During retirement Alfred enjoyed making furniture for his granddaughters, gardening, and working on household projects. Alfred was a deeply religious and hard working man whose easy going personality will be missed by all. "Rest in peace dad, Your loving family".A Christian memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside in Oshkosh, Wisconsin With Rev. Roger Erdman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Per Alfreds wishes he was cremated and there will be a private inurnment in New Holstein later in the day. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
