Agnes and Clarence Schmitt of Townsend were visiting Agnes' sister in Appleton on October 17, 1927 when their daughter Althea Rose was born. Althea grew up in Townsend and graduated from Wabeno High School in 1944. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh and later earned her Associates Degree from UW-Oshkosh.
Althea met her husband Robert (Bob) Jakubowski in Milwaukee, and they married at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Lakewood. They were married for nearly 69 years until his death two years ago. Bob and Althea had three children: Robert, Diane, and Thomas.
Althea worked as a Registered Nurse, and later as an office manager at Casey Manufacturing. She was an experienced seamstress, making clothing for herself and her children.
Althea passed away on November 9, 2024 surrounded by family. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bob; brother, Cletus Schmitt; and sisters, Carol Koenig, and Sister Mary Claudia.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dr. Robert Jakubowski (Dr. Laura Torres), Diane Jakubowski (Albert Francesco), and Thomas (Jennifer) Jakubowski; six grandchildren: Dr. Robert Jakubowski (Dr. Shruti Puri), Caroline Jakubowski, Vincent and Peter Francesco, and T.J. and Casey Jakubowski; and one great grandchild, Luca Jakubowski. Althea is also survived by brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Frank, Joyce, and Janet Jakubowski and Beverly Schmitt.
