Amber Mae (Drews) Anklam passed into the arms of her Lord at the age of 97 on Wed., Sept. 28 at Bethel Home.
She was born in Oshkosh on May 26, 1925, the daughter of Wilbert and Alma (Abraham) Drews. She graduated from Oshkosh High in 1943 with highest honors.
Amber was married to the love of her life, Russell Anklam, on May 15, 1946. Russell passed away on August 8, 2005. They lived on the Anklam homestead near Pickett until January of 1966 when they moved to Omro to the house Russell built until May 1997 when they moved to Villa St. Teresa, now known as Glynn Park in Oshkosh.
Amber worked as an Executive Secretary in the Engineering department of J. I. Case in Winneconne until her retirement. After this she volunteered for over four years with Carmen Jaeger as a “gramma” helper in the Omro kindergarten class where she was known as “Mrs. A”.
She loved to sing and was a lover of all music. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards all through her life. Her Lucky Seven card group met regularly for over 50 years. She did various volunteer work in the office of Villa St. Teresa while living there. She was a Cub and Brewer fan, and also a Packer and Badger fan.
She was a loving and caring mother to her four daughters: Nancy (Doug) Conley of Las Vegas, NV, Karen (Edwin) Sheppard of Fond du Lac, WI, Sandy Juedes of Ripon, WI, and Bonnie (Robin) Last of Green Bay, WI. She took great pride in her eight grandchildren: Megan (Travis) MacFarlane of Las Vegas, NV, Stephanie (Benji) Brye of Sun Prairie, WI, Melinda Sheppard (Chris Armagost) of Durango, CO, Eddie (Amanda) Sheppard of Shawano, WI, Lesley (Antonio) Curro of Mequon, WI, Tim (Kerri) Juedes of Madison, WI, Angela (Steve) Garvoille of Oregon, WI, and Sean Last of Oregon, WI. She had eleven great grandchildren: Jackson, Brhianna, Lucy, Gabriella, Ramona, Lydia, Yardley, Anthony, Ethan, Dominic, and Daxton. She is also survived by a nephew, John Befus. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Delbert Drews, and her three sisters, Dolores Befus, Ruth Felker, and June Drews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bethel Home, especially 2West, and Compassus Hospice for their tender care.
Funeral services for Amber will be held on Wed., Oct. 5 at 11:00 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, Westside. Visitation will begin at 10:00. The Reverend Connie Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for Peace Lutheran Church Music Department and Bethel Home Activities Fund.
