Antonella "Nellie" Carrick, age 101, passed away peacefully in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on June 30, 2024. Nell was born in Oshkosh on November 23, 1922 to Anna (Steinfort) and Roman Gruse. Nellie was a devout member of St. Mary's Parish for her entire life. She attended St. Mary's school and was in the last class to graduate from St. Mary's High School. On July 20, 1944, she married the love of her life, Arvid "Bud" Carrick of Oshkosh. They were married at St. Mary's church in a double ceremony with Nell's sister Delores Gruse and Les Kellar. Nell and Bud were married for over 70 glorious and loving years.
Nell worked at the Drug & Book store during her youth and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh later in life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She touched the lives of so many people by her kindness and enthusiasm for life. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Antonella is survived by her children: Michael (Melody) Carrick of Oshkosh, Patrick (Jill) Carrick of Alexandria, Virgina, Sally (Bill) Nordstrom of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Colleen Carrick of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and John (Jana) Carrick of Cedarburg, Wisconsin. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Bryan Carrick, Barbara Carrick, David Carrick, Lynsie (Brandt) Bernier, Connor Carrick, Jennifer (Nathan) Ambrose, Sarah (Ryan) Burke, Anna (Micah) Sikora, Deidre (Igor) Hercegovac, Caitlin (Jordan) Werly, Sarah McDonald, Kyle Carrick, Kevin (Brianna) Carrick, Abigail (Jarrett) Simonson, and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, daughter Barbara Ann Carrick, and all of her siblings.
A visitation at 9:00 am and mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 8th at 11:00 am at St. Mary's church of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, 605 Merritt Ave, Oshkosh. A reception will follow in the church basement. A private burial will be held at the Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
The Family of Nell would like to thank the Aurora Hospice team, AGC Home Cares, and Jackie for the wonderful care they gave during mom's final years of her amazing life. Memorials may be made out to the Children's Leukemia Research Association in honor of their daughter, Barbara Ann Carrick.
