Arline L. Sitter

May 6, 1924 — March 15, 2021

Arline (Laedtke) Sitter, of Oshkosh, died peacefully on March 15, 2021 at the age of 96. She was born to parents William and Alma Laedtke. Arline was in the middle of five children. She married Edward Sitter on October 15, 1960. They enjoyed community activities and much travel together. Sadly, Ed passed away in 1975. She has been a resident of Evergreen Retirement Community since 2012.

Arline grew up on her family's farm and graduated from Oshkosh High School. She was hired by the First National Bank’s bookkeeping department, part time, while still a high school senior. She went on to enjoy a long and remarkable career with the bank (now U.S. Bank). Through her years there she took every opportunity to learn, continuing her studies through the American Institute of Banking and more. She became a pioneer in women's banking and was passionate about advocating for women as bank customers and colleagues. Arline was a beloved ambassador for the community, known for her infectious enthusiasm, her knowledge and experience, and her dedication to her customers. A warm and caring person, she treated every customer as a friend. Arline retired after 51 years with the bank, as Vice President of Personal Banking.

Arline was very involved in her community. She served on the boards of the Oshkosh Community Foundation Women's Fund, the 20th Century Club, the Altrusa Club, Bethel Homes, and the Evergreen Foundation. She was a devoted lifetime member and Trustee of First English Lutheran Church. Arline was also a long-time volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the EAA, SCORE, the Oshkosh Area United Fund, and Cerebral Palsy of the Midwest. Often, she was recognized as a 50-year member of these organizations.

Arline received many generous honors for her lifetime of service. She was the 1st woman inducted into the Oshkosh North High School Hall of Fame. She received the Annual Division Award of the American Cancer Society and the Life Service Award from the Oshkosh Area United Fund. The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation presented her with the Partner in Philanthropy Award, the title of Director Emeritus, and the Life Service Award from its Committee on Aging.

Arline is survived by her brother Glenn (Claire) Laedtke of Bloomington, MN and brother-in-law Dr. W. Richard Schwartz of Wauwatosa, WI. Her brothers Ralph (Ruth, Ferne), Lester (Sylvia), and sister June (Laedtke) Schwartz preceded her in death. Arline was also a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Arline lived a remarkable life. She leaves a wide circle of family, friends, colleagues and customers who will miss her zest for life, her care for others, her big smile and ready laugh. She is now at peace, but we will miss her dearly.

The family extends a special thank you to Jane & Greg Laedtke and the staff at Evergreen/Sharehaven for their loving care.

Due to pandemic considerations, a private family service will be held.

Memorials may be made to the Arline Sitter Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation (230 Ohio Street, Suite 100, Oshkosh, WI 54902) or to First English Lutheran Church (1013 Minnesota St, Oshkosh, WI 54902
