Arthur Gordon Newell

Oshkosh - Arthur, age 83, went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2012 while being cared for at Oakwood Manor Assisted Living Facility.Art was born March 15th, 1929 in Rochelle Township, Illinois to Mary (Marose, Campbell) and Edward Newell. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1948 and attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb, Illinois, where he played fullback on the football team in 49-50. He worked for Northwestern Railroad, Milwaukee Railroad, Harley-Davidson and Oshkosh Truck Corp. He retired from Oshkosh Corp in 1991 after 18 years of service. In retirement, he helped out at the Gilead One Apartments for a few years. He married Joyce Ann Richter (Dehn) on his 51st birthday, March 15th, 1980. Art loved his step-children and grandchildren and enjoyed trains, photography, playing cards, wildlife and music, and could dance a mean polka, especially when played by the Del Rays. He liked to cheer for the Bears, Cubs and Brewers. Art was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was a friend of Bill W. since 1984. He is survived by his wife, Joyce and three step-children: Gail Sirek (Buck Hafeman) of Appleton, Brian (Denise) Richter of Madison and Roxann (Larry) Delfosse of Oshkosh; and 10 grandchildren: Jamie (Martin) Danzer, Travis and Tyler Richter, and Joshua, Kelika, Sarah, Rachel, Aaron, David and Rebecca Delfosse. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine older Campbell step-brothers, step-son-in-law James Sirek and step-son Steven Richter.Special thanks to the staff of Oakwood Manor for their loving care and compassion.Funeral services for Art will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 400 N. Sawyer Street, Oshkosh, with the Reverand Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
