Audrey Gorwitz

September 10, 1927 — January 28, 2021

Audrey Kenney Gorwitz was born September 10, 1927 at St. Mary's Hospital to Genevieve Bridget Prunty and her husband Frances Joseph Kenney. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Audrey graduated from St. Peter's Catholic grade school and went on to graduate from Oshkosh High School in 1945. She spent the next few years of her life living in California, doing volunteer work and other jobs. She subsequently returned to Oshkosh, got her nursing degree from St. Agnes school of nursing in Fond Du Lac and became a registered nurse. After some years of dating, Audrey married her husband Simon Gorwitz on October 25, 1959. They were married for 41 years before her beloved Simon passed away on August 4, 2000.

Audrey loved reading, especially poetry and her book club, gardening, watching her favorite show Jeopardy, cooking, movies, and spending time with her dear friends, many of whom lived on the same block as her. She also enjoyed her summers spent at the Pioneer Inn, swimming and spending time in the sun with her family and friends. Audrey was dedicated to her Temple B Nai Israel where she shared many friendships and dedicated many hours of her life. She adored her home in Oshkosh where she and her husband resided for 41 years and then Audrey for another 19. Those 60 years in one place were filled with so many wonderful memories and she took such pride in her home.

Audrey is survived by two children: Joseph Kenney Gorwitz, of Oshkosh, Mary (John) Cary, of Mequon; six grandchildren: Dan (Erin), John (Courtney), Megan (Mike) Jilek, Molly (David) Cook, Andy (Sara), Colleen (Adam) Drent; 13 great grandchildren, with two on the way; her dear friend, Deborah Havens; and her dear cousin, Ann (Scott) Small and their son Murray. She is preceded in death by her dear friends: Donna Struensee, Noreen Mueller and Bette Ellison; her husband's relatives and close friends; Harry (Jean) Gorwitz, Esther (Harry) Palmer, Rose (Harry) Weinstein, Jen (Si Simon), Morris (Jean) Gorwitz, Louis (Frida) Gorwitz, Sam (Joyce) Gorwitz; her dear cousin, Cora; and her beloved parents Genevieve and Joseph Kenney.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can made in Audrey's name to the Oshkosh Public Library or to the Temple B Nai Israel, 1121 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh.
