Betty Jane Mathwig, 89, of Oshkosh died at Bethel Home on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Betty was born in Oshkosh on April 7, 1924 a daughter of the late Mandus and Linda (Rothenbach) Roebke. On July 27, 1946 she married Frederick Mathwig in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1993. Betty was a Nurse at Mercy Medical Center for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was also a member of First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh where she taught Sunday School, she was a red Cross Volunteer and enjoyed playing Bridge with her local Bridge Club friends. Survivors include her sons, Roger (Sue) Mathwig of Wild Rose and Fred (Jill) Mathwig of Pelican Lake; her daughter Linda Monson of Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Troy, Elizabeth, Nathan, Michael, Gus, Logan, Ashley and four great grandchildren, Deven, Myya, Houston and Madelyn. Along with her husband, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Mandus, Neal and Roger, two sisters, Barb and Sally and her son-in-law, Tom Monson. Funeral services for Betty will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 12:00 (Noon) at First English Lutheran Church (1013 Minnesota St. Oshkosh) with the Rev. Tim Greenwald officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. to the service time. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bettys name to First English Lutheran Church (1013 Minnesota St., Oshkosh WI 54902) or to Bethel Home, Inc. 225 N Eagle Street, Oshkosh, WI 54902) would be appreciated. Bettys family would like to thank all of the Staff at Bethel Home for the care and compassion given to her during her stay. Betty will always be remembered as a loving and kind mother and grandmother.
