Beverly Holm

Beverly A. Holm, age 76, of Oshkosh, died Saturday November 2, 2013 at St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee. She was born on July 12, 1937 in Manistique, MI., a daughter of Willard and Myrtle LaVigne Gentz.Beverly was a kind, compassionate, and tolerant person. She touched many lives along the way and always found the good in people. She lived her life by setting examples for her sons and granddaughters.She was born in Manistique, Michigan, a small town in the Upper Peninsula. It's a place where people are honest and friendly and Beverly was no exception and lived her life that way. She attended Catholic elementary schools and Manistique High School. She participated in band and drama and was elected Senior Homecoming Queen. She was the oldest child of three and always took care of her sister and brother. This would come in handy later when she raised her family.While in high school she was the only female member of the ski jumping team in Manistique and competed against other boys throughout the U.P.She attended Northern Michigan University for the two year teachers program and taught elementary school in Gulliver Michigan. To help pay her way through school she lived with a doctors family and became the family nanny. She married William Holm in 1958 in Manistique and started her family the next year. In 1963 the family moved to Racine, WI. It was here where her lifetime passion of being a homemaker became her life's work. In 1969 the family moved to Oshkosh where she soon gave birth to the family's fourth son. She relished her role as a mom and had four boys in the span of 10 years. Beverly always made sure the clothes were clean, the food was cooked, and the home was comfortable for her boys. She was outnumbered in the house 5 to 1 by men, but she took care of everyone first before herself. She truly was the epitome of a mom, and that will be her lasting legacy. She never missed a ballgame, concert, or school event for her sons. After the nest was empty, she went to work outside the home. She truly loved and was proud of her time at "Truck" and even managed to earn a small pension. In her later years she spent time with her friends and family and that brought her most joy. She loved being a Nana to her two granddaughters and loved telling stories about "the little blonde boy on the curb" crying after running away from school for the 12th time. She was a rabid Chicago Cubs fan and because she was a breast cancer survivor she wore her pink Cubs hat with pride. She would look forward to Kevin's calls telling her "Cubs on WGN at 7 tonight". Beverly served as a greeter at St. Raphael's Church in Oshkosh and had a strong Catholic faith. She donated to many charities and was very generous to others and never forgot a birthday. She loved to go out for dinner, and a restaurant meal generally consisted of her ordering an entre and then eating two bites, then ask "what's for dessert? She loved to have people come see her and was most happy when her family was around her.A special mention should go out to Steve O, who was instrumental in allowing Bev to enjoy her last few years and was always kind and caring. The family would also like to thank the staff at Evergreen for their caring and help over the last few years. Mom,You were an inspiration to us all, always there for us no matter what we may have put on you. You loved and guided us right to the very end. Now God has a special place in heaven for a mother of 4 sons. We're pretty sure you'll be in the front row too!! Till we see you again,Love Mike, Pat, Chris, Kevin She is survived by her four sons Michael(Heather) Holm, Patrick Holm, Christopher(Staci) Holm, Kevin(special friend Jodie), two grandchildren Holly, Ally and her mother Janeen, one sister Nancy Gentz, sister-in-law Sharry Gentz, special friend Steve Osieczonek and other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William GentzA memorial service for Beverly will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.Memorials will be set up for Breast Cancer and The Heart AssociationThe family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. Lukes Medical Center.
