Burton Arthur Genz

May 25, 1919 — September 11, 2005

Burton A. Genz, 86 of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly on September 11, 2005 at the Evergreen Rehabilitation Center where he was recovering from a hip fracture of just a couple weeks prior. Burton was born on May 25, 1919 in Oshkosh, the beloved second child of Arthur and Flora (Ternes) Genz. While he was yet an infant his family moved to a farm west of Oshkosh on 4th Street Road. He helped his parents on the farm until his marriage to June Knight of Waupaca on April 25, 1946 in Oshkosh. He worked for the Oshkosh Ice Co, and then went to work for Winnebago County as a foreman in the highway department, a position that he held for 35 years. He especially enjoyed clearing the roads of snow in the winter in the Town of Omro. During this time he made numerous friends as he also plowed out their drives. He was called The best snowplower that anyone has ever had. by Doug Gunz, a resident of the Town of Omro. He was very proud of that title. After his retirement from the county he became the town constable for the Town of Algoma, where he has been a lifelong resident.Burton is survived by his wife, June Genz, their children: daughter, Linda (Steven) Werner, sons, Thomas Genz (special friend, Bonnie Keith), and Russell (Karen) Genz all of Oshkosh, grandchildren, Terry Werner, Christine Resop, James (Steffie) Genz, Jeffrey Genz (special friend, Lea Heussner) all of Oshkosh, and John Genz, who is stationed in Italy serving our country in the U.S. Navy, four very special great grandchildren, Hunter John and Makala Anne Resop, and Haley Rae and McKenzie Renee Genz all of Oshkosh. He is also survived by a sister/in/law, Mavis Genz, brothers/in/law, Edgar (Evelyn) Knight and Sidney (Jean) Knight, special friends, Tony Hansen and Hilda Novotny (who he always said was like his own mother), and many nieces and nephews. We of course cannot forget his sidekick, that little, white dog, Molly, who sat for hours on the tailgate of the Dakota truck watching the traffic. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wilbur Bud Genz and Clifford Genz, and by four sisters, Eleanor Clute, Audrey Studley, Lois Pollack, and (infant) Myrtle Genz.Gardening and keeping his lawn mowed were his greatest pleasures. Of course, long talks with his neighbors were a daily occurance (in which they tried to resolve the worlds issues, or maybe again it was just the Town of Algomas issues or just trying to figure out about that new car or dog in the area).Burtons funeral will be Thursday September 15, 2005 at Noon at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside with the Rev. Carl Knitt officiating. Burial will be in the Ellenwood Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Peace be with you, Dad, and we hope that they have an Indian Motorcycle waiting for you in heaven like you had in the olden days, but be careful because there is a lot more traffic nowadays. Love, Your Family.
