Cameron Victor Gassere, 11, of Oshkosh passed away Monday July 23, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born December 20, 2000, in Oshkosh, son of Paul and Anne (Cameron) Gassere. Cam was a student at Read Elementary School and was going to be a student this fall at Webster Stanley Middle School. He was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ. Cam was active in the scouts being a former member of the Read Elementary Cub Scout Pack 3644 and was now a member of the Boy Scout Troop 604. He earned many recognitions in scouting and loved spending time at the Gardner Dam Boy Scout Camp. Cam enjoyed airplanes and was an EAA Young Eagle, with his Uncle Bruce giving him his first flight. He loved the outdoors especially archery and fishing and was going to do a mentored hunt this fall at the Buckhorn State Park. He also loved playing softball, flag football, was in the FIRST Lego League. He enjoyed time at the family cottage - fishing, swimming, boating, and practicing marksmanship. Cam also enjoyed spending time across the street at Millers Bay. He was a voracious reader of nonfiction books. He loved singing his made up songs. With his cousin Kellyn, he enjoyed riding and caring for his favorite horse Char at Roeming Stables. He had to do everything and have everything NOW!He is survived by his parents Paul and Anne Gassere of Oshkosh; a brother, Spencer and a sister, Kate of Oshkosh; grandparents Carol and Dave Cameron of Oshkosh, and Alice and Eugene Gassere on Mindoro, WI; aunts and uncles, Bruce and Tracy Cameron of Carmel, NY, John and Gail Cameron of Oshkosh, Julie Cameron of Ft. Worth, TX, John and Janine Gassere of Noblesville, IN, and Anne V. Gassere of Madison; cousins, Taylor Cameron of Oshkosh and Winona State Univ., Kellyn Cameron of Oshkosh and UW-Madison, and Clare McDuffy of Madison; an adopted aunt, Sherri Landig of Oshkosh; a great uncle Roger Gasser -his hunting mentor; and his wonderful St. Pauls UCC family, who loved Cam for who he was.The funeral service for Cam will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 1250 Leonard Point Rd. Rev. RaeAnn Beebe officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to the Oshkosh Community Foundation on behalf of Cameron to be used for local Autism/Aspergers Education or Boy Scout Troop 604. Cams family would like to send a special thanks to all of the Oshkosh Area School District personnel who nurtured and influenced Cam and recognized his gifts.Cams way of giving still continues as an organ donor and his brain is being donated to the Harvard Brain Bank for autism/Asperger research.
