Carla Nemitz

June 6, 1945 — November 19, 2024

Carla Nemitz, age 79 of Van Dyne, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Eden Meadows of Oshkosh. She was born on June 6, 1945, in Oshkosh the daughter of Walter and Viola (Turner) Wood.

Carla was united in marriage to the love of her life Ervin R. Nemitz on January 23, 1965. After their marriage, they chose to raise their children on the family farm and then Carla eventually branched out to actively participate in other activities as her children matured. Being actively involved in the 4-H as a youth, Carla knew the importance of being actively involved in the community, and giving back to others was extremely important to her. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Nekimi. She served the church in many capacities. She was a member of the Church Council and served as President for a term, a member of the Women's Group and then served as President for a couple of terms, she enjoyed her time with the Rebekah Circle as they discussed the meaning of the Bible and worked like a well-oiled machine organizing and operating various breakfasts, fundraisers, and supporting the youth of the church. One of her passions in serving the church was being part of the church choir as she often was heard humming or singing her favorite hymns. Carla also served on many committees over her tenure in church leadership.

When her children were school-aged, she attended most sporting events and supported their various organizations and sports by being an active member of the alumni or booster groups. She participated in FFA Alumni, AFS, and Letterman's Club over the years. She enjoyed clerking for the Fond du Lac County Beef Show for many years as she had the advantage of watching her children show from the best seat in the arena. She also was an active member of the Van Dyne Lions/Lioness Club.

Carla as a nursing school graduate, started her career as an LPN by working for the Winnebago County Mental Hospital for many years. She enjoyed giving her patients care and assisting them with their various needs during their stay. Once the family started to grow, she decided to be a housewife and actively participated in her children's lives and assisted her loving husband on the farm. She put many miles on the vehicle taking care of getting parts when the machinery was broken down, picking up her children, and taking time to spend with her husband traveling to various locations to see the sites. When the family farm was lost, she decided to expand her love of baking and share that passion with many at Copp's Bakery. Carla became a baker extraordinaire as her donuts and breads were second to none and sold out fast during the morning rush. Later in her life, Carla worked at Wal-Mart in many capacities as she possessed the personality to make everyone feel welcome and enjoyed meeting new people. She quickly became known for her shining personality and had many regulars wait for her service at the snack shack, shoe department, or cash register.

Carla was also passionate about Wisconsin sports as she was an avid fan of the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers. When a game was on, Carla had a pulse on it. She was even a proud and exuberant NFL owner. She also extremely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. They have always felt the love of grandma and knew they were spoiled. During her downtime, she enjoyed a good book, studying trees and weather patterns, along with bird watching. Carla owned many feeders and strived to make sure the nature around her was satisfied. Lastly, she enjoyed adding honorary members to the family! She "adopted" many of her children's friends as her own and truly enjoyed their friendships over the years.
