Catherine (Katie/Katzy) Spaeth-Troxell passed away on August 19, 2006 in the loving arms of her daughter, Barb after a short illness. Catherine was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Leadville, Co. Her father then died of a farm accident when Catherine was very young. She was raised in Newburg, Wisconsin by foster parents, Peter and Catherine Schumann. She married Eugene Spaeth (now deceased) in West Bend in 1941. They had five children: Gene (Lori) Spaeth, Madee (Dave) Roell of West Bend, Kathy (Len) Backus of Oshkosh, John (Cheryle) Spaeth of St. Louis, and Barb (Bill) Byrne of Madison. She loved to be around people singing, dancing, playing cards, shopping, rolling dice, playing bingo, gambling, golfing, bowling, and watching her favorite Brewers and Packers. She worked hard all her life, but knew how to kick up her heels and have a good time too. When she moved to Carmel Residence Community of Oshkosh, she embraced everything that a retirement home had to offer, including volunteering in the Bethel Home Gift Shop where she was chosen Volunteer of the Year. She wanted to be remembered as an exceptional woman. She will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched in some way.Visitation for Katie will be in the chapel at Bethel Home on Wednesday August 23, 2006, beginning at 1:00 pm, with a Catholic Mass at 2:00 pm, with Fr Thomas Reynebeau officiating. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Bethel Home of Oshkosh, and Capital Candlelighters of UW- Childrens Cancer Center (517 N Segoe Rd, PO Box 258133, Madison, WI. 53725). Katies family would like to thank Dr Kaci Osenga of UW ?
