Charles T. Pommerening age 68, of Oshkosh died at Mercy Medical Center on Friday, June 10, 2011. Chuck was born in Wauwatosa on October 24, 1942 and was the son of the late Harold A. and Marie (Neustifter) Pommerening,. He married Cheryl Cheri Gronowski in Oshkosh on July 18, 1964.Chuck served his country in the Air Force as a member of the Air Force Band of the West, based at Lackland Air Force base in Texas. He was employed for thirty years with Oshkosh BGosh as a Cost Accountant. He was an active member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, and currently Emmanuel United Church of Christ. His involvement included serving on councils and committees, both locally and at the conference level. As a graduate of the Lay Academy of the Wisconsin Conference United Church of Christ, he led worship services and study groups. Chuck also participated in the chime choir, drama ministry, and chancel choirs. He was a past member of the Oshkosh Lakeshore Lions Club and served on the district level. He was honored for his service by the club by becoming a Melvin Jones Fellow. Another passion of Chucks was being an active volunteer and committee member of Cerebral Palsy of Mid-East Wisconsin. Chuck enjoyed the arts - acting with the Oshkosh Community Players, helping out backstage at the Grand Opera House, and clowning. At Christmas time, Chuck was known to put on the red suit and take on the role of Santa Claus to the delight of many children and adults. In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed cooking, deepening his faith, his collection of Elmos and Santas, and spending time with his family and pets.Survivors include his wife Cheryl Cheri Pommerening; one son, Jeffri (Cindi) Pommerening; one daughter, Gretchen Pommerening; two grandchildren, Morgan and Sabrina Stinemates, all of Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law, Judy Drill and Barbara Drill, both of Punta Gorda, FL. and several cousins.Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ (1306 Michigan St.) at 3:00 PM with Rev. Annette Wolff officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to the time of services, with military honors to follow.
