Charles W. Gilbert, 85, of Oshkosh, formerly of Lake Forest, IL, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his home. Charles was born in Leonardville, KS the son of Leo and Vandilla Gilbert. He married Shirley Branch on July 8, 1950 in Lake Bluff, IL. Charles retired from the Lake Forest IL Police Department as the Chief of Police and was key in many innovations to the department. After his retirement the Gilberts moved to Fremont, WI where he served as a village trustee and had been board president. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran and a life member of American Legion, V.F.W., Illinois Police Assn, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shirley of Oshkosh, WI; sons, Ronald Gilbert of Waukegan, IL, Roger Gilbert of Hesperia, CA; daughters, Tina Onusko of Chesapeake, VA, Sherri Creamer-Shaw of Janesville, WI, Sandra Salem of Wauwatosa, WI; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three sisters. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral (Westside). Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again of Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Private burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
