Clara Dorothy Houge

Clara D. Houge, 81, of Oshkosh went home to be with her Lord Thursday July 28, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on August 27, 1929 in Oshkosh a daughter of Bert and Meta Hoffman Thiel. On December 10, 1949 she married Carl Houge in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death February 16, 1985.Clara was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where she was involved with Daughters of Sarah. Along with her husband they operated Houges Bar in Oshkosh. Clara enjoyed bowling, playing cards with her sisters, time at the cabin, and spending time with her family. Everyday for Clara include her daily devotion and her prayers for good kids.She is survived by three sons, Michael (Melanie) Houge, Glenn (Jan) Houge, Jeffery ( Lisa) Houge, one daughter, Peggy (Andy) Swan, two sisters, Marion Thiel, June Braeger, 10 grandchildren, Chanin (Tim) Styka, Gabe (Judie) Styka, Jessica (Dave) Leiberg, Morgan Houge, Jason (Andrea) Houge, Kristen Houge, Scott Houge, Samantha Houge, Lauren (Mat) Boyer, Ruth (Steven) Chandler, 13 great-grandchildren, Clara, Michael, Lucas, George, Hunter, Katelyn, Dale, Glenn, William, Samuel, David, Andrew, and Tiffany, two great-greatgrandchildren, Lucas, Nathan, one sister-in-law, Betty (Gus) Gussick.She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Dicky Thiel; parents; three sisters, Lorraine Merkel, Edith Dahms, Susie Bartell; mother-in-law, Molly Drews; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Frank; and two brothers-in-law, Wilken and Waldo Houge.Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ (1306 Michigan St.) with Rev. Andi Wolf officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park.A memorial has been established in Claras name to Emmanuel United Church of Christ.A special thank you to Sherry Dahms, Kathy Middleton, Louise Thieben, the Affinity Dialysis Group, Affinity Hospice Care and her special neighbors for the care and support Clara received from them.
