Cynthia (Cindy) Rose Puhl

Cindy Puhl, Age 61, of Oshkosh, left this world in peace surrounded by family and friends on Friday morning, September 28, 2018.

Cindy was born November 15, 1956 as the 3rd daughter of Eleanore and Bernard Puhl. She enjoyed growing up in the country on the family dairy farm in Wonewoc, WI and Mauston, WI. Cindy was a graduate of Mauston High School in 1973 and attended several years of nursing school in Milwaukee; received her insurance and real estate licenses in Oshkosh. She lived in Oshkosh most of her life and it’s here that she worked as an insurance agent and real estate broker. The last several years, Cindy was the business manager for Captain Jack’s in Oshkosh and was an officer of the Wisconsin Tavern League.

Cindy had a voracious curiosity and loved to explore whether on road trips in Wisconsin, standing atop Chechen Itza in Mexico, walking the Great Wall of China, exploring Munich and Berlin, Germany or standing in Tiananmen Square in Russia. She surrounded herself at home with pictures and mementos from her travels which reminded her of the vast world she lived. Her thirst for knowledge was also fed with books. Cindy was an avid reader and books would transport her to other places and times. She was a frequent visitor at the Oshkosh Public Library and family & friends shared hundreds of books with Cindy during her lifetime.

Cindy was a strong and independent woman. She was the kind of person who would put others in front of her own needs and was the most caring and compassionate person you would ever meet. Not one to mince words, Cindy spoke her mind, was direct and sarcastic in her own special way. Her unique sense of wit, humor and views on life made her an interesting person to engage in conversation and we all will remember our talks fondly. She developed special bonds and close relationships with many. She found humor in the little things and to some was affectionately known and she referred to herself as ‘Wicked’, a reference to Oz to which the nickname came from the East/West location in Oshkosh to her best friend.

Cindy was a lifelong lover of animals. She loved her pets passionately and her two surviving pets, Muffin and Holly, will miss her dearly. Her caring went farther to other animals and she was known to stop and carry a turtle over a busy highway or to nurse an injured squirrel back to health. Cindy was comforted by the Norse legend, the Rainbow Bridge, in which person and pet will one day be reunited and cross over the bridge together.

Her friends and family will miss her deeply but know she’ll find happiness and peace as she meets those that went before her and waits for those still to come. She is survived by her loving father Bernard Puhl of Mauston, five siblings: Linda Puhl, Julie Peterson (Dan), David Puhl (Judy), Ginny Puhl aka Bundy, and Walter Puhl (Mary Jo); her Aunt Donna Schluesche and her close friends Karen Pelko (Dave) and Peter Moore. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family as well as the large cast of friends, neighbors and acquaintances met over her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her mother Eleanore Puhl (nee Schluesche).

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses, medical personnel, chaplain and friends who supported her during her illness. Without them we would not have had the extra time to share more laughs, tears and love over the last 8 months.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her honor to the Oshkosh Public Library.
