Damaris “Dee” L. Evans

August 2, 1939 — April 1, 2022

Damaris “Dee” Evans, 82, a resident of Oshkosh was born to eternal life on Friday, April 1, 2022. She was born on August 2, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Louise and Charles White. Dee was a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU) in 1960 with a degree in Education and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education at UW-Oshkosh.

While at TCU she married the love of her life, Jeff G. Evans, Jr. Dee came to Wisconsin in 1967 when Jeff joined the Jobs Corps in Tomah. She taught for a year with the Elroy Public Schools and then came to Oshkosh in 1968 and taught for 32 years. Dee was passionate about teaching and dedicated her work to helping every student succeed. Her gift as a teacher was recognized when she was awarded “Middle School Teacher of the Year” in 1990-1991. She was deeply loved by her students and many still remember her.

Dee loved football- especially her Dallas Cowboys, and was a “die-hard Democrat.” In retirement, Dee enjoyed volunteering, traveling, collecting recipes and visiting with her grandchildren. She had an infectious sense of humor and never lost her Texas drawl. Dee was also known for her love of planning and hosting parties. A special joy of hers was visiting and spending time with friends.

Dee was an avid reader and writer. She especially enjoyed writing fictional stories and hand written cards and notes of caring and encouragement. Dee was a member of Plymouth Congregation Church and served several terms as a deaconess.

She will be greatly missed by her family; her daughter Dyan (Tim) Barbeau, daughter Allison Simon and son Jeff (Angie) Evans III. And her grandchildren Emily, Hannah and Abigail Barbeau, Nicholas Simon, Makenna and Montanna Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and her son-in-law, Kelly Simon. At the end of her life, she was lovingly cared for by her friend, Judith Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local food pantry in Dee’s memory.
