Dana Lewis Karl

Dana L. Karl Sr. age 60 of Oshkosh passed away after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis at his home on Sunday, November 22, 2009. He was born in Berlin on May 13, 1949 a son of the late Robert and Louise Winkowski Karl. Dana married Kathryn Ann Kosup on Dec. 14, 1974 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church in Oshkosh.Dana had been employed at Wittman Regional Airport for 17 years until his health forced his retirement. He also operated an archery shop from his home. Dana was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.Dana was an avid outdoorsman. He was a lifetime member of the Otter Street Fishing Club and a past president of the Omro Bowhunters Club. He was also a member of Winnebago Archers Club, Wisconsin Bowhunters Club, Springbrook Sportsman Club and he started the archery league at Archery Haven. Dana also did custom painting on cars and motorcycles, and enjoyed watching NASCAR races.He also enjoyed spending time with grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Karl, of Oshkosh; one son, Dana L. Karl Jr.and special friend Beth Nelsen of Oshkosh; one daughter, Tracy Neuens, of Omro; four brothers, Larry (Pat) Karl, Oshkosh; Robert (Karla) Karl, Oshkosh; Jeff Karl, Omaha, NE; Mitchell Karl , of WI; two sisters, Sandy (Jason) Vlavitis of NC and Heidi Karl, Cedar Falls, IA; three grandchildren, Jason and Haley Neuens and Trinity Mathias Karl; Brother-in-law, Randy (Linda) Bunge, Green Bay; Sister-in-law, Dianne Kosup, Oshkosh many nieces and nephews; and four best friends, Harvey McDowell, Tom Kerr, Tom Luedeke and Karen Fenrich. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Karl and a sister Debbie Bunge. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church (830 S. Westhaven Dr.) on Wednesday Dec. 2, 2009 at 6:00 PM with Rev. Jason Blahnik officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial has been established.Thank you to the Dr. Yi, her staff and Affinity Hospice for their care and compassion given to Dana the last several years.
