Dana Possin, of Oshkosh, died June 9, 2010, after a brave six month battle with kidney cancer. Dana was born March 1, 1951, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Chester and Marian (Halle) Possin. He was raised in Waupun. He graduated with high honors from Waupun High School in 1969 and represented his class at Badger Boys State. Dana attended UW-Madison, graduating with a B.A. in Zoology and a B.S. in Science Education. He was a tuba player in the UW Marching Band. After graduation, Dana worked as an Academic Staff Research Specialist in the genetics lab of UW-Madison Dept of Zoology. Later he worked as Senior Scientist for the firm Environmental Compliance Consultants, Inc. in Green Bay and Madison. In his 50s, Dana found a new passion - teaching. Although trained as a science teacher, he enjoyed a great variety of assignments as a substitute teacher. One day he would conduct a high school band or chorus and the next day be requested as a substitute kindergarten teacher. He loved them all. Dana was a talented actor and musician. He composed music, played the piano and sang, sometimes performing solo and sometimes with a band. During the 1970s, he was musical director and actor with Madisons Ark Repertory Theater, and also served as president of their Board of Directors. Dana was an avid outdoorsman. He particularly enjoyed many fishing trips to Savant Lake, Ontario, and was a lifelong hunter. Dana was also a skilled carpenter, often using these skills to help family and friends.Dana is survived by his parents, Chester and Marian Possin, Oshkosh; his sister, Mary Possin, and her husband, John Disch, Monona; his sister-in-law, Joan Larson Possin, Oshkosh; his nephew and niece, Henry and Annie Disch, Monona, along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
