Daniel Francis Mccormick

Daniel F. McCormick age 87 of Oshkosh died at Evergreen Retirement Community on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Dan was born in Niles, IL on June 22, 1922 a son of the late Sylvester and Anna Schuster McCormick. He married Marilyn Price Rothe on December 26, 1964 in Oshkosh.Dan served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII flying P-38 fighter planes. He was involved as support in the bombing of Dsseldorf and Berlin. He was stationed in England, France and Italy. Dan continued his career in the military by joining the Air Force Reserve and was retired as a Lt. Colonel. Dan worked as an engineer for Mercury Marine for 45 years and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge his work gave him. He is credited with 32 patents. Before going to Mercury Marine, he, his father and his brother built and owned the McCormick Boat Company. They built and raced many of their boats. Dan was an avid reader and coin collector all of his life. He also enjoyed belonging to the EAA and the QB Clubs at the EAA. His favorite thing was to be building something in his garage or working in his yard.Dan is survived by his wife Marilyn, of Oshkosh; two step-children, Kim (Gary) Rothe-Kruger, of Oshkosh; Scott Rothe, of Oshkosh; one grandson Alex Rothe, Oshkosh; sisters-in-law Jean McCormick, Jean Price and Quinn (Richard) Polinske; and several nieces and nephews.A Memorial service will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 1:00 PM. followed by Military Honors. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from Noon to the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Field of Honor Military Veterans Museum or the United Cerebral Palsy Association.
