Darrell William Oppermann

Darrell William Oppermann began his eternal nap early Sunday morning, August 20, 2017. He left three shocked and devastated women on this earth to wander without his unconditional, if sometimes loud, love, affection, council, and political opinions. His wife, Darlene (Derr) Oppermann; and two daughters, Christy Fine and Amanda Maierhafer. He left three beautiful, sweet, and intelligent grand babies. Kieran fished and raced with Grampa, Aiden walked to the park with Grampa, and Cecelia loved his silly faces.

Darrell was very proud of his military service and for his subsequent 25 year career as a QAR for the Federal Government, ensuring the safety of the men and women who serve to this day. He was a relentless bulldog in that calling; never stopping until he was sure the right thing had been done. He received countless awards, certificates, and commendations for this work, which he kept in a dresser drawer.

His parents, Sid and Louise, celebrated his homecoming along with his two brothers Butch and Jeff and many other cherished relatives he hadn’t seen in many years. He is survived by his sister and youngest brother, and anyone else who had the good fortune to know this generous, stubborn, gentle man whose heart was full of love and forgiveness for his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Konrad-Behlman Westside Funeral Home, 100 Lake Point Drive. Visitation will be from 2pm until the time of the service. Military honors to follow.

37 years after he came into my life, on that very same day he disappeared. Quietly, calmly, and without fighting. Not at all like my father.
