David L. Steckbauer, 78, of Oshkosh passed away after a brief illness, on Monday, October 13th, 2014 in Oshkosh with his family at his side.Dave was born on December 26th, 1937 to Leo and Dolores Kirsch Steckbauer in Oshkosh. Dave graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1956. He served as a cook and radio operator in the U. S. Army from 1961 1963 stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He then spent 37 years as a diet cook at Winnebago Mental Health Institute.He is survived by his three children, Leslie J. Steckbauer of Appleton, Leo D. Steckbauer of Appleton, Jenny E. (Keith) Reinke of Oshkosh; granddaughter, Jessica E. Brooks of Oshkosh; and his sister, Diane (Ray) Novotny of Henderson, NV. He is also survived by his grand dogs, Louie, Gus, Rizzo and Sammie; aunts, uncles, many cousins and very good friends. He is preceded in death by his nephew, Ray E. Novotny.As per Daves wishes no funeral service will be held. Respecting those wishes his family is holding a gathering of friends and family on Saturday, October 25th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm to share memories and laughter but no tears at the Charcoal Pit Restaurant and Bar, 1485 W 20th Ave, Oshkosh.
