Dean Gilbert Smith

Dean G. Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning October 15th as the day was breaking. He was born on January 1, 1930, the son of Victor and Ruth (Beglinger) Smith. Dean married Anna B. Jungwirth in Oshkosh, on October 30, 1954.Dean enlisted in Wisconsin National Guard in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1956.He worked for the State of Wisconsin at Winnebago Mental Health for ten years before becoming a correction officer for the next eighteen and a half years until his retirement in 1985.Dean was a charter member of All Saints Lutheran Church. He started the Lenten soup suppers there to share his talent of cooking. Dean always made sure the church was prepared for worship by delivering the flowers and wine.He is survived by his wife; daughter: Ruth (Jerry) Tritt; four sons: James (Brenda), Terry (Jill), Peter (Lisa), and Rex (Stephanie Mcauly); ten grandchildren: Jacob and Jared, Hamilton (Erica Christman), Jamie, Joshua, Caitlin, Carley, Michael, Kelsie, and Hudson Smith, all of Oshkosh, and Ashley (Ron) Wondra, of Campbellsport; great grandson: Tanner Smith; one brother: Dale of Vero Beach, FL; sister in law: Dorothy Jungwirth of Oshkosh; brother in law: Edward Jungwirth of Alabama; and many nieces, nephes and friends.Dean was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Carol Ruddy and Joyce Moon; two brothers: Victor and Jay A. Smith; son in law: Jay Hamilton; son: Jeffery; and grandson: Luke Smith.A funeral service for Dean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at All Saints Lutheran Church (1072 Honey Creek Rd.) with Rev. Kim Krogstad officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Aurora ICU and also to Dr. Hanes for all the care and love they gave to Dean.
