Deloris Huston

DeLoris Dee Huston, 81, died at Evergreen in Oshkosh on Saturday, April 12, 2008 with daughter, Lori, and son, Rick, at her side. A beloved wife, mom and grandma, she will be dearly missed. In addition to Lori (Paul) Kubicek of Oshkosh and Rick (Carol) Huston of Carmel IN, she is survived by son, Jeff (Kathy) Huston of Medina MN; grandchildren, Jared, Sarah, Natalie, Elly and Brett; and great-grandchild, Adrianna.DeLoris Jeanne Hess was born in Winfield, Iowa in 1927, the only child of Ralph and Cecille (Nichols) Hess. After earning her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College, she married Donald Lines Huston of nearby Olds, Iowa in 1949 (the couple wed in California on the Bride & Groom radio show). Her parents and Don, loving husband of 52 years, preceded her in death.Known affectionately as Dee, she was a dedicated housewife and mother who also taught elementary school in the 1950s and 60s, and at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. Dee was a gifted artist, a 50-year member of PEO, and at various times throughout her life in many states, was active in church, delivered Meals-On-Wheels, and volunteered often. She especially loved Christmastime and also enjoyed golf, bridge, antiques and painting. Most of all, she cherished her family.Her husbands frequent job-related moves in the lumber business required Dee to settle many homes for her family—in Iowa, Illinois, New York, California, Minnesota and South Carolina—prior to coming to Wisconsin to be near their daughter. In retirement they enjoyed travel and extended stays at Lake Tahoe. Dees charm, grace, optimism, devotion and ever-present smile defined her life. She will be interred with Don in her hometown of Winfield over Memorial Day weekend. A memorial fund is being established in Dees name to support research at the University of Wisconsin, Madison - VA Hospital. The family thanks all those who served and befriended Dee at Evergreen in Oshkosh and Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls.
