Dolores S. Kohn

Dolores S. Kohn was called to her eternal home on June 11, 2013. She lost a valiant battle with cancer after being free of the disease for 34 years.Dolores was born October 5, 1928 in Oak Park, Illinois, a daughter of John and Dora Whitbeck. She later moved to Indiana, where she graduated from Plymouth High School in 1946. Dolores married James Kohn on June 11, 1955 at Calvary Lutheran in Plymouth. Later she worked as a library assistant at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa and the University of Iowa library in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1963 James and Dolores moved to Oshkosh. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran, where she sang in the choir, belonged to Dorcas Circle, served as a teachers aide, and was Chairman of the Properties Board. She later attended Bethlehem Lutheran and spent a year as a teachers aide Merrill Middle School.Dolores was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to cook and kept a beautiful garden. She had a smile for everyone, her laughter and good spirits will long be remembered. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband; two children, Jeffrey (Stefanie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Karen Novotny of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Jack, Liesel, and Katrina Kohn and Aaron Novotny; a brother, Ralph Whitbeck of Jackson, Michigan; and six nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Saturday, June 15 from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 402 Waugoo Ave. The service will follow with Pastor Paul Lidtke officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Mercy Health Foundation/Cancer Fund and UW Carbonne Cancer Center. The family wants to thank the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center who attended Dolores with kindness and devotion; Dr. Gremminger and her staff for their compassionate care; and Dr. Lars Swanson for his faithful doctoring for years.
