Donald D. Jorgenson

February 27, 1932 — June 5, 2015

Donald D. Jorgenson passed away on June 5, 2015, at the age of 83. He was born in Edgerton, WI on February 27, 1932 and was raised in Janesville. He married Beatrice Peterson in Chippewa Falls on June 11, 1955.They moved to Oshkosh in 1964 where Don became the first Director of Admissions at UW-Oshkosh presiding over the rapid growth of the university. A year later he was also named Registrar. Prior to coming to Oshkosh he had been a counselor and coach in Wauwatosa.In his career at UW-Oshkosh he founded the Center for Career Development and Employability Training, served on numerous national and statewide committees and retired as Professor Emeritus of Counselor Education. He remained active teaching part time for UW Oshkosh and Marian College and consulting for companies in the areas of outplacement counseling and retirement/life planning. In partnership with Marian College, he administered a program offering high quality educational experiences for teacher and administrators. In 2000 he founded the Graduate College of Wisconsin and served as president for three years. He was also president of Jorgenson Education Services, LLC. Don earned a Bachelors Degree from UW La Crosse, a Masters Degree in Counseling from UW Madison, and a Doctorate in Counseling from Michigan State University.Don was very active in the community presiding as President of the Oshkosh City Counsel and serving on several boards including YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Advocap and the Village at Westhaven Condominium Association. He was past president of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Campus Ministry at UW Oshkosh. He was president and a principle founder of Winnebago Racquet Club now the YMCA Community Tennis Center.Don enjoyed spending time with his family often involving travel, fishing trips, cook outs, golf and Packer and Badger football games. He played basketball and tennis in high school and college and continued his avid interest in tennis winning several doubles championships in Oshkosh and Florida until sidelined by two knee replacements. He especially enjoyed being a grandpa.Survivors include his wife Beatrice of almost 60 years, sons Robert (Suzette) and Jeffrey (Ingrid) of Oshkosh; daughter Stephanie (Patrick) Cartwright of Oshkosh; grandsons John (Brit Bodoh) Cartwright and Eric Jorgenson; granddaughters Emily Cartwright and Jessica Jorgenson; and step-granddaughters Sonya and Heidi Robinson; great granddaughter Kinsley Cartwright and step-great granddaughters Mia, Kyra and Mckenna Robinson. He is also survived by special niece Julie Arnau and other nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his mother and father, two brothers and three sisters.A memorial service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Timothy W. Routh officiating. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Parkview Health Center.Thank you to Dr. Knier and Dr. Goldman, the Doctors at St. Lukes, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center. Also special thanks to the nurses and staff at Parkview for their compassionate and gentle care given to Don and his family.
