Donald G. Melhorn, age 87, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully at his daughters home on April 21, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born September 16, 1929 in Pontiac, MI; the son of the late George and Edna (Kloetzke) Melhorn. He married Gloria E. McAuley on June 30, 1951. She preceded him in death on August 14, 1985. He married Dorothy (Karl) Luebke August 20, 1988. He proudly served our country in the Army. Donald worked at Paine Lumber Company, Neenah Paper, and also drove truck for the Manser Company. He graduated in 1974 from the Fox Valley Technical College Semi Truck Driving School. He started his career for the Radford Co. retiring after 17 ½ years of service. With truck driving in his blood he continued to drive for Fox Valley Iron & Metal for 9 1/2 years. Don was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving many years on the church council, property committee and as an usher. He always had a love for the outdoors, as an avid hunter and enjoyed bird watching. He was a wonderful father and grandfather to all his family. Don was a man with a generous heart always there to lend a helping hand.
Don is survived by Dorothy, his children: Gail (Bob) Breu of Omro, John (Agnes Pahnke) Melhorn of Omro, and Paula (Steve) Schmidt of Neenah; one brother, Elmer (Theda) Frank, grandchildren: Julie (Kevin) Brown, Nathon (Lisa) Breu, Dawn (Nick) Giebel, Katie (Robert) Navarre, Matthew Melhorn, Kelly Melhorn, Rebecca Roberts (Chris), Stacy (Jay) Geiger, Bryan (Nicole) Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt; seventeen great-grandchildren, stepchildren: Jeanie Macho and Dan (Mary) Luebke; step-grandchildren: Tyler and Devin Macho, Brandi (Zach) Dehler, Kayla & Isaiah Luebke. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gloria, grandson, Marshall Melhorn, great-grandchildren: Emily & Josephine Geiger; brothers: Dan Melhorn, William Schultz and Richard Frank.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 808 North Main Street, with Rev. Jennifer Czarnota officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 pm until the time of service with full military honors to follow. Internment will at 10:00 am on Thursday at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
