Donald K. Davies, age 87, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL. He was born on April 9, 1929 to Oliver and Vera (Kraetschman) Davies in Oshkosh, WI.
Don attended Oshkosh High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army where he obtained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and retired after twenty years of service.
He was a former farmer, factory bench worker, ditch digger, mailman, tavern keeper, and a Greyhound bus agent. Most of his adult life, Don was the proud and innovative owner/operator of Oshkosh City Cab and CABuLance until his retirement at the age of 80.
Don enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, fishing, bowling, darts, golf, snowmobiling, basketball and boxing throughout the years.
He was a part of many organizations and those included; Elks’, MOAA, VanDyne Sportsman Club, Fox Valley Gun Club, Otter Street Fishing Club, and was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks’.
Don is survived by his daughters: Kathleen Davies and Elizabeth (Brad) Schultz; sons: Paul, Gary (Sue), Glenn (Barb) and Steven (Virginia) Davies; his wife of over eleven years, Shelley; sixteen grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and siblings: David and Jane Davies.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Meta and Rudolph Kraetschmann and Elizabeth and David Davies; parents: Oliver Davies and Vera Kraetschman Bosma; and his beloved wife of 54 years, Marcia.
A funeral service will be held for Don at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside with Rev. Joann Schoblaski officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (with an Elks’ service taking place promptly at 4:30 p.m.) and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery with full military honors taking place.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Elks’ Lodge #292 Memorial Scholarship Fund (P.O. Box 942 ,Oshkosh, WI 54903) or to Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Ring (mail to: Carol Greisbach 3940 Knapp St., Oshkosh, WI 54902) in Don’s name.
