Donald S. Apell, 77 of Oshkosh died early Thursday morning February 15, 2007 at Bethel Home after a long struggle with kidney disease. He was born January 26, 1930 in Oshkosh, son of Melvin B. and Amanda (Manser) Apell. Don graduated from Oshkosh High School in January 1948 and then attended Sherwood Music School in Chicago and also Oshkosh Teachers College. He married his high school sweetheart Lila (Hafeman) Apell on November 11, 1950. Don was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He owned Don Apell Tile Co. As a longtime member of the Oshkosh Elks Lodge #292, he became a past Exalted Ruler. Don was also Chairman of the Town of Black Wolf for several years, as well as a County Board Supervisor, acting as chairman of the Aviation Committee. For several summers he was very active at the Pioneer Airport of the EAA. Don is survived by his wife Lila of Oshkosh; son, Guy (Gale) Apell; daughter, Judy (Chris) Martell, all of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Adam Apell, Emily Apell, Jason Keppler, Nicole Martell, Rachel Martell, and Sam Martell; two great-grandchildren, Deonte and Jazmine Coffin; a brother, Dr. Melvin G. (Amy) Apell of Oshkosh, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral home- Westside on Monday, February 19, 2007 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. In keeping with Dons request, a private funeral service officiated by Rev. Kemp Jones will be held at a later time. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. Dons family wishes to thank the staff of 2E at Bethel Home, for the care given to him.
