Donald Wayne Bartels

Donald W. Bartels, 79 of Oshkosh died at his home with his loving family at his side on Sunday June 28, 2009. Don was born in Oshkosh on July 13, 1929, a son of the late Harry and Ruby Nolte Barthels. He married Eunice Babe Krause in Oshkosh on February 27, 1948.Don was employed for many years at UW-Oshkosh in the Cavern at Reeve Union. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Don was a member of Sturgeon for Tomorrow, Ducks Unlimited, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, Winnebago Conservation Club and a former member of Walleyes for Tomorrow. He was a volunteer fireman with the Town of Algoma Fire Department. Don enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time with family and friends at his cabin in Minocqua. For years Don and his wife participated in the spring Sturgeon watch.Survivors include his wife of 61 years Eunice Babe Bartels, Oshkosh, two daughters, Carolyn Michels, Little Chute; Judy (Fran) Milligan, Little Chute, one son, Steven (Karen) Bartels, Ripon; six grandchildren, Carra (Steve) Janssen, Lisa (Scott) DeGroot, Chad (Laura) Michels, Michelle (Justin) Cali, Lori Plosczynski and Ashley Hirte; two step-grandchildren, Mirissa Milligan and Miranda (Mike) Raivala; ten great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law Arlene Barthels, Oshkosh and Enid Schrader, Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Bartels, Eugene Nudge Bartels, Melvin Skip Barthels and one sister, Joan Barthels.Funeral services for Don will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Eastside on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 2: 00 PM with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and on Thursday from Noon to the time of service. Interment will be at Ellenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established.Special thanks to the staff at Theda Clark Medical Center and to the Theda Care at Home Hospice staff for their care and compassion.
