Dorothy Frances (DiFranco) Firl age 92, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Petaluma, California surrounded by her family. She was born in July of 1929 to Francesco & Angelina DiFranco. Married to Gilbert Firl who preceded her in death in 1981.
Dorothy was a kind and generous soul who made it a policy to remember your name. She had a long career in telecommunications, starting out at the local telephone company in Salem Ma. and later went on to work for the US Government as a Regional Telecommunications Manager. Her love of adventure led her to live in many places including Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, Okinawa, Japan, and Deerfield, IL - all while continuing her career. Along the way she even added Realtor and Enrolled Tax Agent to her resume. Yes, she wore many hats but the most important one was being a mother. Dorothy's love of her family was her #1 priority. She eventually settled down in Oshkosh, WI where she lived and cared for her disabled son, Lawrence, for more than 30 years years. Her greatest legacy will always be her love and service to her family.
She is survived by: her son Robert (Julie) Firl of Oshkosh, WI, Daughters Donna (Craig) Carroll of Petaluma, CA Linda(Jerome) Markiewicz of Newark, DE. Grandchildren - Nichole (Eli) Rosenberger, Joseph Carroll, Sarah (Mario Guerra) Carroll, David (Sara) Kohls, Jenny (Jason)Kettenhoven -Great Grandchildren Lucy, Benjamin & Ellie Rosenberger Grant & Anna Kettenhoven, Emma & Matthew Kohls. Brother Charles (Ann) DiFranco, Brother in-law James Gardner, Sister in-laws Marie DiFranco & Micky DeFranco.Numerous Nieces & Nephews Preceded in Death by: Spouse Gilbert Firl, Son Lawrence Firl. Parents: Francesco & Angelina DiFranco, Brothers Carmello, Paul (Dolly),Salvatore, Joseph DiFranco, Sisters Rose Gardner, Anna (Anthony) Farinelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament - St. Peters site on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 12 p.m. with Rev Jerry Pastors officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place following the service at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
