Dorothy J. Red Geffers, age 86, of Oshkosh died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Bella Vista. She was born on December 18, 1926 in Nebraska the daughter of the late Ray and Estel (Powell) Umphenour. She met her later to be husband; James J. Geffers whom was in the Air Force. They met at a ballroom in Nebraska where they danced the nights away. On April 24, 1946 they got married and continued their lives together and soon after became a loving mother of six children.Red enjoyed bowling and golfing with her friends and family members and loved playing card games such as poker, bridge, and sheepshead. Her second home was the Springbrook tavern. She frequently would shoot pool and hang with her many friends.Red is survived by three daughters; Vicki (Lee) Harris of Waupaca, Julie (John) Berndt of Oshkosh, and Nicole (Todd) Salfai of De Pere, two sons; Peter (Susan) Geffers of Oshkosh, and Jeffrey (Elodia) Geffers of Wautoma, eighteen grandchildren; James and Travis Abbott, Amber Nelson, Angela Britzke and Kayla Berndt, Torry, Tammy, Pierce, and Desiree Geffers, Sherri Mittlesteadt, Steven Walker, Jackie, Maria, Kara and Carlos Munoz, Danny Dadas, and Alison and Tyler Salfai. She also had fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.Dorothy Red is preceded in death by her husband; James J. Geffers (May 15th, 1995), and her daughter Zana Abbott (September 14th, 2012).My mother was how she referred to us all. She was a beautiful lady to all who knew her. She was fun and happy person to be around. Her golfing pals had this to say, Dorothy Geffers, we call her Red, shed rather gamble, than go to bed. Shes one gal we love to see, to see what shade her hair will be. We love her earrings they shake and glitter, she keeps the fellows all atwitter. Shes a good bridge player, golfer, and bowler, at the casino shes a real high roller! She likes to dance and is a real fun gal, were all glad to see our old golfing pal!-her dearest friends A funeral service will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-(Westside) with Pastor Greg Decker officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Ellenwood Cemetery.
