Dorothy Grace Karrow

Dorothy Grace Karrow (nee Heller), age 85, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 22, 2006 at St. Elizabeths Hospital. She was born May 7, 1920 to Alfred and Edna (Menning) Heller. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the Fox River Valley. She graduated from Neenah High School in 1938. She worked as a car hop at the Neenah A & W Root Beer stand where she met her future husband, Howard C. Karrow of Menasha. She was employed by Kimberly Clark during World War II. On May 11, 1946, she and Howard were married and they raised a family in Appleton after moving there in 1948. After her children were grown, she worked at Gimbels Department Store selling fine jewelry until her retirement. She then began a career volunteering in the gift shop at St. Elizabeths Hospital for the last twenty plus years. Dorothy was a very spiritual person and God and her Church were a very important part of her life. She thought of the Pastor and the Congregation of Riverview Lutheran Church as a second family especially after Howard passed away December 19, 1999. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She loved people and enjoyed going out for dinner and had several favorite spots. She is survived by her children: John (Linda) Karrow of Schaumberg, IL, Jeffrey Karrow of Appleton, Paula (John) Santner of Omro. She is further survived by two wonderful grandchildren Jennifer and Stephen Karrow, Schaumburg, IL. Her extended family included Howards sisters and their families who included her in so many of their family get togethers which she enjoyed immensely. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John; two sisters and brother–in-law, Ruth and Francis Oberreich and Mary Jane Heller. A celebration of her life will be held at Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church (136 W Seymour St.) with Pastor Dennis Boelter officiating on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dorothys name to Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church and Fox Valley Lutheran High School. She was a good wife, a wonderful mother and great friend, she always looked her best and her shoes always matched her purse. We love you mom and well miss you.
