Beloved wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and friend, Dorothy R. Gartman passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017. She was 82 years old. She wanted others to know, and told them often, how happy and proud of her family she was.
Born in Oshkosh March 1, 1935, to parents Emil and Amalie (Mill) Stieben, Dorothy was the ninth of 10 children. She later married Ronald H. Gartman, also of Oshkosh, on May 10, 1958. They recently celebrated 59 years together.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She was a book keeper at Pluswood for nearly 30 years. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed painting and tending to her rock garden, where she especially liked the petunias and marigolds. Above all, Dorothy had a deep love of family. Holiday gatherings were often held at her home; her meals and cookies were everyone’s favorite. She will be dearly missed by many.
Dorothy is survived by Ron, their daughter Anne (Gary) Lerch, three grandchildren Andrew (Esther), Bethany, and Erin (Tom O’Connor), and two great grandchildren, Sofia and Sebastian. Dorothy is also survived by her sisters Bertha Foster, Martha (Gordon) Tellock, and June (Lawrence) Lowther, all of Oshkosh, and her brother, Edwin Stieben, of Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary and Emma, and three brothers, Alex, Emil Jr., and Frederick Stieben.
Services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Visitation will be 9 am – 12 pm, with a service to follow. Interment will take place on Friday at 11 am at Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers.
