Douglas "Doug" C. Jirovetz, 73, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on August 14, 2016. He was born on March 21, 1943 to Frank and Grace (Yindra) Jirovetz in Maribel, WI. He graduated from Denmark High School in 1961, the class valedictorian. He earned both Bachelors and a Masters degree in Mathematics from UW-Oshkosh and later studied computer science there. UW-O employed him as a computer programmer/analyst and later named him head of the Institute for Information at UW-O. Upon his retirement, he established and funded the Douglas C. Jirovetz Scholarship at UW-O Foundation.Doug courageously served his country in Vietnam, working as an Army medic in two field hospitals and later at a burn center in Fort Sam Houston, TX, until his discharge in 1969.Doug married the love of his life Mary LeRoy on October 6, 1973, at St. John's Baptist Church in Menasha.Doug enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He played fast pitch baseball for many years, continuing into his 40's. His teams included Judy's Gin Mill, Bob's North End, and George's Gaslight. He also umpired throughout the years and bowled for many years for the Brass Rail. Doug enjoyed attending Country USA for 20 years, watching the Packers, Brewers, and especially the Timber Rattlers, as well as all sports events of his nieces and nephews. Doug enjoyed playing bridge, his work with the board of directors of the UW-O credit union (Prospera), all aspects of the UW-O Learning in Retirement program, the UW-O Alumni Assn. and the UW-O Retiree Breakfast Club. After retirement, Doug and Mary enjoyed away game Packer weekends, winter getaways to Mexico, and getaways to Door County.Doug will be sincerely missed by many, including his wife Mary; his mother Grace Jirovetz, his 13 brothers and sisters: Sue Schumacher and sons Steve (Lisa), Todd (Leslye), and Darin (Tia); Fran (Diane) Jirovetz and his daughter Emmy; Bonnie (David) Frechette; Wayne (Sharon) Jirovetz and daughters Maggie and Nora (Pete)Falk; Sally (Vic) Lucas and children Tyler(Amanda) and Tara (fiance Matthias Schustrater); Pat Jirovetz and children Shannon Starch(Andy Lehmann) and Nathan Starch; Bob Jirovetz; Mary Jirovetz; Wendy (Dana) Johnson and children Jon(Alissa Naymark) and Angie (fiance Al Ruiz); Lori (Jeff) VanDalen; Lynne Jirovetz; Jackie (John) DiCecco and children Grace, John, and Paige; Chris Jirovetz, friend Ron Starch; aunt Agnes Schmidt; brother and sisters-in-law Paul (sig. other Mary Spilski) and children Nikolas LeRoy, Nadine Otto, and Stefanie LeRoy; Margaret (Gary) Buss and children Amy (Anthony) Johnson, Mandy (Matt Pepperkorn) Buss, and Mitchel (Kalee Luedtke); Barbara LeRoy and children Jason (Robin), Jennifer (Jesse Miller), Benjamin (Emily) and Joshua LeRoy. He is further survived by his Godchildren, many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and his shadow, Sam.Doug was preceded in death by his father Frank Jirovetz, niece Claire DiCecco, brother-in-law Michael LeRoy, and father and mother-in-law Bernard and Helen (Scheer) LeRoy.A funeral service will be held for Doug at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Konrad-Behlman funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, with Fr. Edward Looney officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Full military honors will be held at Riverside Cemetery where Doug will be laid to rest.Contributions may be made to Douglas C. Jirovetz scholarship at UW-Oshkosh Foundation (625 Pearl Ave).
