Dr. Joseph Pellegrin

Dr. Joseph Pellegrin Jr., age 88, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, in Oshkosh, WI. Joe was born on June 7, 1933, to the late Joseph Sr. and Laura (Julian) Pellegrin in Fairmont, WV. After serving in the United States Army, he met and married the love of his life, Ellen Steinhoff, on August 10, 1957, in Wilton, WI. Joe graduated with his Bachelor of Education from Fairmont State University, his Master of Vocational Education from UW-Stout, and PhDs in each of Vocational Education and Educational Administration from UW-Madison. Joe held many educational positions throughout his career, including Superintendent of the Bloomington, Markesan, Germantown and Oshkosh School districts, and Dean of Vocational Education at Milwaukee Area Technical College. While serving as dean at MATC, he developed a program to assist under-privileged students with their schooling. Joe was a master woodworker, and early in his career created and taught the wood and metal shop programs at Grafton High School.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen; children, Tony (Amanda Williams) Pellegrin, Elizabeth (Robert Jr.) Zimmerman, Mary (Bob Magrady) Durant; grandchildren, Tayler Pellegrin, Alison and Crystal Zimmerman, Kaylee Durant, Caroline Pellegrin and Henry Pellegrin, and great-grandson, Damian. Joe is further survived by his sister, Lyndia Kendrick; sisters-in-law, Caroline (Donald) Buenz, and Jeanne Steinhoff, as well as numerous extended family members whom he loved and loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Henry Sr. and Gertrude Steinhoff; brothers and sisters-in-law, the Reverend Henry Steinhoff, Raphael Steinhoff, Teresa (Kenneth) Creviston, Ruth (Giles) Karis, as well as his niece and nephew, Kay, and Robert Gouzd Jr.

A visitation will be held beginning at 1:00 pm, with a memorial service beginning at 2:30 pm, at Konrad-Behlman Westside (100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh) on Saturday, August 14, 2021. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Rodney’s Café in Oshkosh, which provides meals for people in need.
