Dr. Robert Gene Isom, Md

Robert Isom, Dr. Bob, 86 of Oshkosh, peacefully departed from this world on the morning of Saturday February 6th, 2016.Born in DuQuoin, Illinois on August 30, 1929, Dr. Bob was the son of Marguerite (nee Elliot) and John M. Isom. Following high school graduation, Dr. Bob married the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) Janello, also of DuQuoin, IL. They began their life together with time spent in the US Navy during the Korean War, living in Bethesda Maryland. Dr. Bob, with Dotties support, graduated from Marquette University School of Medicine in 1961. They went on to raise four wonderful children.Following a general surgical residency, Dr. Bob joined the practice of Drs. Graber and Guenther MD, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Here, he pioneered many new procedures, and broadened his practice to include a vascular surgery specialty, where he remained active until retirement in 1994. Upon retirement, Dr. Bob and Dottie began to spend the majority of their time in Destin, Florida. Here, they made many lasting friendships and enjoyed an active life, volunteering their time, playing hours of tennis, fishing and combing the beautiful beaches. Until age 80, tennis was truly Dr. Bobs favorite past time, and any of his worthy opponents would testify to his competitive and yet fun-loving spirit both on and off the tennis court. Dr. Bob also enjoyed the annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Convention in Oshkosh. For many years before and after retirement, Dr. Bob volunteered in the on-site medical clinic where visitors from around the world benefited from his care.Dr. Bob was an exceptional husband, father, physician and friend. He focused on the positive, was always eager to help, and loved an intellectual discussion until the end.Bob is survived by his wife Dottie, his daughters Lori Isom (J. Kelley Bentley, granddaughters Helena and Audrey), Mary Nolte (Tom, grandsons Michael and Kevin), son Jeffrey (Sara, nee Roth, grandsons Joseph, Ho-su and Henry and granddaughters Kate and Younhee), daughter in law Diana Isom (nee Rachupka), sister in law JoAnn Isom, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son John, brother Bill, grandson Jeffrey and many aunts, uncles and cousins.The visitation will be held on Thursday February 11 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 100 Lake Pointe Dr, Oshkosh, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.The Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday February 12th at 11 :00 AM, St. Jude the Apostle Church (formerly St. Vincent Church) 216 W. South Park Ave., Oshkosh.Private interment will follow, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oshkosh.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated in Dr. Bobs memory, to Marquette University or Lourdes Academy.
