Earl Herbert Marotz, 93, of Oshkosh went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Bethel Home. He was born March 8, 1921 in the town of Newton, Marquette County, the son of the late Henry and Helen (Knapp) Marotz. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1939. Earl was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.After working with the CCC, Earl enlisted in the U.S. Army August 7, 1942. Earl was an official driver while serving in the European Theatre. He was honored to drive for General Patton. Earl was a decorated serviceman, honorably discharged November 13, 1945.On August 16, 1952, he married Shirlene Zabel in the town of Crystal Lake, Marquette County. Shirlene preceded him in death March 4, 2008. Earl worked for the Milwaukee Cheese Company as a driver and warehouse foreman.Earl is survived by one sister-in-law, Margaret Marotz of Sheboygan Falls, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirlene, four brothers, Arnold, Eldon, Martin and Walter, four sisters, Grace, Edna, Ruth and Betty, sisters-in-law, Linda, Esther and Jean, brothers-in-law, Rodney Sorenson, Herbert Henne, Charlie Bladl and Glenn Waelti.Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 N. Eagle St., on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11am with Rev. Dave Pagel officiating. Interment will be at St. Pauls, Westfield. Military honors will take place at 1:30pm at the cemetery.Earl will be fondly remembered for his kindness, cheerful disposition, family record keeping and exceptional card playing. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oshkosh.A special thank you is extended to the loving and caring staff of Bethel Home of Oshkosh.
