Edward John Steinert Jr.

d. May 10, 2014

Edward J. Steinert passed away Saturday, May 10-2014 at Mercy Medical Center after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with heart and kidney disease and diabetes. His family surrounded him as his spirit was freed from its broken shell, and are comforted by the knowledge that he is finally free from the pain and suffering he has endured over the past number of years. Ed was born in Oshkosh on October 4, 1943 to Edward and Teresa (Piller) Steinert. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1961, and went on to work at the family meat processing business in rural Oshkosh. After the business was sold, Ed went on to work in the electrical trade, first as a Journeyman Electrician, and then as a Master Electrician, owning and operating Eds Electric for many years. He also built homes and ran a small tavern on Oshkoshs south side called Steinies Bar. The latter part of his working years was spent in the electrical trade, and he enjoyed the varied and interesting positions he held in that regard. Also in 1961, Ed married his childhood sweetheart, Gail Holsworth. They enjoyed each other completely, and throughout their 46 years of marriage, lovingly raised their two sons, and were elated with their six grandchildren. They enjoyed life to the fullest; travelling, enjoying the lake house, and always staying close to their family. They travelled a great path together, but were separated when Gail succumbed to cancer in 2007.In 2009, Ed was fortunate to find love again, and married Paula Stamborski, and together, they opened a new chapter of life. He was passionate about his involvement in the music ministry of Zion Lutheran Church, and with Paula directing the choir and him operating the sound board and singing, Ed enjoyed many happy times and made terrific friends through that endeavor. He was greatly involved at Zion in everything from working on the property and grounds, helping with fundraising, doing sound and lighting for services, and many other areas too numerous to mention. Ed also made some great friends and created some beautiful music with the Oshkosh Seniors Center choir which Paula also directs. With Paula, Ed spent the past few years enjoying life, travelling, and blending their families, creating many new memories that will be cherished on into the future.Ed is survived by his wife, Paula; sons, Bill (Carol) and Tony (Chrissy); six grandchildren: Steven, Nathan, Andrew, Melanie, Kimberly, and Carly (all of Oshkosh); his sister and brother in law, Beverly and Tim Miller of Green Bay; mother in law, June Stamborski; two special aunts, June Holsworth and Leona Pertmer; and numerous nieces, nephews, treasured relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail (Holsworth) Steinert, and his parents, Edward and Teresa Steinert. While we will all miss his ever-present grin, his sense of humor, his friendship, his love, and his positive attitude, we know he is in a better place, and that he is at peace.Services for Ed will be at 6 pm on Friday, May 16 at Zion Lutheran church, 400 N. Sawyer St. with a visitation at the church from 3 pm until time of services. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center- PCU-2, Dr. Weber, Dr. Radford, Dr. Quereshi and Fox Valley Nephrology Staff, Dr. Gierl, Drs. And staff of Cardiology Associates, Prayer.
