Elaine Ataman

August 7, 1924 — November 22, 2016

Elaine Ataman, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home to heaven on November 22, 2016. She was born August 7, 1924 and grew up in Oshkosh, WI. At age 19, she joined the Marine Corp League and proudly served during World War II. For many year after she was an active member of the Winnebago Marine Corps, the Womens Marine Band Association, and was a charter member of the National Association of Women Marines. She served as Commandant for the State of Wisconsin and Winnebago County Marine Corps League.After moving back to Oshkosh, Elaine worked for 33 years and retired from AT&T. She was involved with the Telephone Pioneers where she served as one of their Presidents.Elaine loved life, her friends, her family, and chocolate. She had a knack for making people laugh, was caring, and she served others by also volunteering for the American Legion Post 70, AMVETS, and Special Olympics. In retirement she enjoyed golfing in the Utica Ladies Golf League, playing cards, and having lunch with her friends. Elaine was a long-time member of First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh where she put her musical gifts to work in the choir.She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Erdmann and former husband Bohdan Ataman.She was a wonderful mother to two daughters, Vicki Wilson and Chris Eggert Rosenthal. She was Grandma Honey to her 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Gregg (Kim) Eggert, Jason Eggert (Susan Pak), Mandi Wilson, Alexis (Chris) Wilson Charles, Brenden Eggert, Collin Eggert. She is also survived by cousin, Ronald (Leslie) Dawson.She is loved immensely and will be greatly missed.A time to celebrate Elaines life will be held at Lord of the Lakes Church in Winneconne, WI on Friday December 2nd from 3-5 PM, a service will follow.
