Elaine M. Altmann, age 99 of Oshkosh, passed away at Park View Health Center on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. She was born on October 29, 1921, to the late Christian and Jesse (Waters) Winters. Elaine married Gordon Altmann on June 17, 1944, and their marriage was blessed with two sons. Gordon preceded her on October 12, 2012.
Elaine worked as a seamstress at Oshkosh B’Gosh until she became a mother. She then spent her time raising her family.
It was a life-long lived and lived well. She fought hard to make it to her 100th birthday but God called her home just a few months before. Elaine loved to bake pies (especially blueberry), cakes, cookies, and just about anything sweet. She made everything from scratch, including her pie crusts, never once buying a box of anything. She even made her own pudding! Her home was spotless, and her flower gardens were beautiful. Elaine loved to dress up and go out, and she looked beautiful when she did! The picture above was on her 90th birthday! Time was good to her. She stayed in her own home until she was 98. She especially loved her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and would give them a big squeeze as her face lit up when she saw them. We’ll miss her cut out cookies for all holidays, her hearty laugh, and her team spirit as she watched her favorite sports games. She loved to root for the Brewers, the Bucks, the Packers, and the Badgers. Never has there been such a loyal fan. It is with a heavy heart that we say our last farewell to her next week as she begins her journey home.
She is survived by her children: Jeff (Wendy), and Scott (Kathie) Altmann; grandchildren: Jason (Safiyyah) Altmann, Jennifer (Lorenzo) Francisco, Andrew (Geoff Staub) Altmann, Austin (Gloria) and Addison (Kaelyn) Altmann; great-grandchildren: Jada Altmann, Mason and Molly Francisco, Eliana, Isabel, and Tallulah Altmann; sister, Joyce Quigley. She is further survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her siblings, Lucille Wagner, Dorothy Craig, and Christian Winters Jr.
Per her wishes, a private entombment will take place.
