Eleanor K. Carroll passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at The Residence of Oshkosh. She was born on June 2, 1924, to the late John “Joe” and Eleanor (Collins) Kearin. Eleanor grew up in Chicago and attended St. Catherine of Siena Grade School, Oak Park IL and Siena High School, Chicago. She was a graduate of Mundelein College, Chicago, with a major in economics and a minor in education. Eleanor was united in marriage to Thomas A. Carroll on June 23, 1951, at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Oak Park, IL. They resided in the Chicago area, Rib Lake, WI, and Neshkoro (Spring Lake) WI, before moving to Oshkosh, WI.
Upon graduation from college Eleanor taught in the Chicago public schools until the time of her marriage and starting a family. In addition to caring for her children Eleanor spent many hours assisting in the family hardware business and educating children in the Rib Lake Schools. She was a devout Catholic and passed on her faith not only to her family but also shared it with those in the community by teaching religious education. She enjoyed watching her sons play ice hockey, being at the lake, swimming, reading, sewing, and filling her home with song.
Eleanor is survived by three daughters: Mary (Joe) Thiel of Oshkosh, Ellen (Barry) Bender of New London, Peggy (Mike) Czerniak of Medford; three sons: Tom (Marilyn) Carroll of Brookfield, Daniel (Tracy) Carroll of Oshkosh, Joe (Diane) Carroll of Kimberly; a sister, Margaret Kearin Carey of Riverside, IL; ten grandchildren: Sarah (Ed) Ek, Maureen Carroll (Ryan Jones), Fr. Michael Thiel, John Thiel (fiance Trisha Picard), Laura (Aman) Bhatia, David Carroll, Alex (Belle) Carroll, Kelly (Seamus) Wedge, Kyle Bender, and Amy (Kevin) Kaley; and eight great grandchildren, Elise & Lydia Wedge, Edison Ek, Evan & Connor Jones, Elphaba & Decklan Carroll, and Colin Kaley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years,Thomas A. Carroll; a brother, John Kearin; and two sisters, Mildred Murray and Mary McMahon.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Residence and Promedica Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, with a prayer service and eulogy at 7:30, on Wednesday, January 18th at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh. There will be visitation at the church on Thursday, January 19th from 9:00 am until the time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 19th at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Oshkosh. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Raphael’s Catholic Church of Oshkosh or to Parkinson’s Research.
